Copyright is a type of Intellectual Property Rights that is a right given by the law to creators of literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works and producers of cinematograph films and sound recordings. It is a bundle of rights including, rights of reproduction, communication to the public, adaptation, and translation of the work. There could be slight variations in the composition of the rights depending on the work. The Copyright Act provides that copyright subsists in an original literary, dramatic, musical, or artistic work, cinematograph films, and sound recordings. The Copyright Act, of 1957 is the oldest extant intellectual property legislation in India. The Act has been amended five times, before 2012, once each in the years 1983, 1984,1992, 1994, and 1999 to meet the national and international requirements.
